1. Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Healthily Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions across its operations by 2030. As a fully remote digital health company of 17 people with no owned premises, vehicles or physical product, the carbon footprint is intrinsically small, and the principal source of emissions is the cloud (data-centre) infrastructure on which Healthily software runs.

The Healthily strategy is therefore built on three pillars: minimising compute-related emissions through efficient engineering and renewable-powered cloud providers; reducing residual home-working and travel emissions; offsetting the small amount that remains by funding trusted carbon removal projects. This commitment aligns with NHS ambitions to reach Net Zero for the NHS Carbon Footprint by 2040 and the NHS Carbon Footprint Plus by 2045. It also supports the requirements of the NHS Net Zero Supplier Roadmap to which Healthily, as an NHS supplier, is committed.

2. Baseline emissions footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases produced in the period before any reduction projects took place. They represent the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured. The baseline year is 2025, when the Carbon Reduction Plan was first published; the baseline year and the current reporting year are the same.

Reporting boundary and methodology

Emissions are reported on an operational-control basis using the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard, applying the UK Government (DESNZ / DEFRA) greenhouse gas conversion factors for the relevant year. Because Healthily has no owned or leased premises and no company vehicles, Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are nil. Energy used by staff working from home is reported under Scope 3 Category 7 (employee commuting / home-working), and emissions associated with cloud and data-centre compute are reported under Scope 3 Category 1 (purchased goods and services). Where primary supplier data was not available, emissions have been estimated using recognised conversion factors and reasonable activity assumptions, and will be refined as supplier-specific data improves.

3. Current emissions reporting

Reporting year: 1 January 2025 – 31 December 2025

As this is the first Carbon Reduction Plan, current-year emissions are identical to the baseline figures set out in Section 2: total emissions of 12.5 tCO₂e, comprising Scope 1 (0.0 tCO₂e), Scope 2 (0.0 tCO₂e) and the reported subset of Scope 3 (12.5 tCO₂e). Future plans will report the current year alongside the 2025 baseline to demonstrate progress.

4. Emissions reduction targets

To continue progress to Net Zero, Healthily has adopted the following carbon reduction targets, measured against the 2025 baseline of 12.5 tCO₂e:

Milestone

Target year

Target (vs 2025 baseline)

Baseline

2025

12.5 tCO₂e

Interim reduction

2027

−50% of residual emissions

Near-zero operations

2030

Net Zero (Scopes 1, 2 & reported Scope 3)

Sustained Net Zero

2030 onward

Healthily projects these measures will reduce residual operational emissions to near zero, with any unavoidable remainder neutralised through certified carbon removals to achieve and maintain Net Zero by 2030.

5. Carbon reduction projects

Completed and in place

Fully remote operating model. Healthily operates without a central office, eliminating commuting emissions and the energy, fit-out and waste associated with corporate premises.

Renewable-powered cloud infrastructure. Software is hosted with cloud providers that operate on, or are matched to, renewable electricity, which substantially reduces the carbon intensity of the principal emissions source.

Digital-first delivery. The product is delivered entirely as software, with no physical manufacturing, packaging, distribution or shipping, so upstream and downstream transport emissions are nil.

Planned measures

Optimise compute efficiency – monitor and reduce the energy intensity of AI and platform workloads (efficient model serving, right-sized cloud infrastructure, and the removal of unused resources).

Select low-carbon cloud regions and providers – prioritise deployment in data-centre regions with low grid carbon intensity and strong renewable energy commitments.

Support low-carbon home-working – guide staff on energy-efficient equipment and renewable home electricity tariffs, and favour energy-efficient hardware on refresh.

Minimise and decarbonise travel – prioritising virtual meetings, favouring rail over air travel, and avoiding short-haul flights where practical.

Sustainable procurement – engage suppliers (including cloud and software vendors) on their own carbon reduction commitments as part of purchasing decisions.

Certified removals for residual emissions – use high-quality, verifiable carbon removals to offset the small unavoidable remainder on the path to Net Zero.

Measure, report and improve – review this plan annually, refine data with supplier-specific figures, and report progress through the Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment when required.

6. Governance

Healthily has appointed its Managing Director, as Net Zero Champion. This role has overall accountability for the delivery of this Carbon Reduction Plan and for compliance with the carbon reduction and reporting obligations under any NHS contract. This plan has been reviewed and approved by the board of directors of Healthily Ltd, is published on the Healthily website, and will be reviewed and updated at least annually.

7. Declaration and sign-off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and the associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions will be reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, and using the appropriate UK Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions will be reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions has been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors of Healthily Ltd.
